Hi Guys :-),
I finished school and really didn’t know what I wanted to do. I liked PC gaming and building my own computers so I thought a degree in I.T would be the right thing to do. Started my degree and really didn’t focus and like it much but to be the first in the family to have a degree was a big thing so I completed it.. Just. Got a job with the Government and plodded along. I tried the private sector for a few years and got very excited learning more and meeting driven people… Then plodded along and the Global Financial Crisis came along and I was made redundant.
My Dad had spoken with me about starting my own business fixing PC’s. Not really knowing what else to do and not getting any interviews for jobs. I looked at starting my own PC fix it business. Put ads in the paper, do leaflet drops and then drive around to client houses or businesses and fix their PC’s. I spent time looking at what I should charge, setting up as a sole trader, buying gear, choose a business name, cards etc. Did all this, stopped and then really thought about it. Is this really what I want? No… There has to be a better way.
After 3 months of messing around with my own business I got another job, providing support for accountancy business. Supporting servers, networks and software. I had to travel a bit which was again a learning experience but the hours and feeling like a whipping boy started to get to me. My brother introduced me to affiliate marketing, he had some small success and so I tried it.
I started to research and learn a little about it, it seemed pretty straight forward and easy. While doing this I reconnected with a mate from Uni – Mike Newton. Mike has been in the internet marketing industry for years and knows a lot about it. Mike gave me some great info and helped but I was a little to busy with work and not focused on building my site enough that I really didn’t get anywhere. I thought it was an easy push a red button and money falls out of the sky type of thing.
I changed jobs to work for a University. It was a good job, with switched on people. They were very good to me as I had some extended time off due to family, flexible working hours and having the option to work from home. I started working there as a Microsoft Systems Administrator and then moved into Linux System Admin. By changing teams and skills I was learning more and more, I was happy and focused. During this time I started to read books about being financially free and the power of running your own business. So internet marketing really started to make sense as a way to earn a living.
I started doing some work with Mike Newton and JV Focus moderating the forum, Facebook groups and Google Plus community. I have learnt a lot from this work and get a clearer picture of the power of creating products and selling online.
I got offered a redundancy from the Uni and decided to take it so I could focus on building a business online.
I look back at all the time that has gone by from my last attempt and I get annoyed with myself. Was I too immature or thinking I could make something happen with working for the man, working my way up the ranks getting paid more and more. Did I like having to get stuck in traffic or pile into public transport everyday. Did I enjoy working with or reporting to numpties, that don’t know what they are doing but interview great and now get paid more? No. Who can change this? Me. I can change this, I’m the only one that can my life. So I better get started.
So here I am, creating a blog and trying to build a business and make a living online. If your in a similar boat and feel stuck please feel free to get in touch with me and I will do my very best to help you out.
If you hate your job, hate your boss, hate what you are getting paid, make a change. You have the power to do it, you just have to get started.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog and me.
